THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO, CHRIS!!

Kate:

Clay, thanks for your good work in Afghanistan and we are enjoying seeing you and the landscape.

lissa:

No, THANK YOU for bringing these needs to our attention. We do not need to be thanked, it is an honour to donate to this wonderful organization. Plus having Clay Aiken as an ambassador helps.

Diane:

Thank you for all the work UNICEF does, and for allowing Clay to make a difference.

He has certainly increased my awareness of the world situation, and I'm grateful for that.

Denise:

I feel honored to have the opportunity to respond to Clay's appeal for the children of Afghanistan!!

The piece on ET on Friday was just wonderful! Clay showed much courage and compassion during this trip. UNICEF could not have chosen a better ambassador for THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD!!

Mrs. Jones On Idol posted a nice mention about this UNICEF fundraiser with links to Clay's appeal for donation page, the UNICEF video and the fieldnotes blog:

Clay Visits Afghanistan - Fundraising Challenge!

http://mrsjonesonidol.com/fastlane.html

(check under Past Fast Lanes if you no longer find it on the main Fast Lane page)

Although this current appeal is nearly over, EddieTheDawg.org and MrsJonesOnIdol.com will continue to follow and promote Clay's humanitarian efforts, and we are appreciative of his fine work through UNICEF on behalf of children and families around the world.

Kabul, Afghanistan is 7387 miles from the San Francisco Bay Area, where I live. The people living there do not share my race, my religion or my culture.

One of the things I have learned through service is that there is no "there" and there is no "them", there is only "here" and "us." Here on earth, all of us share a common humanity. Through Clay's appeal for $100,000 in 10 days for Afghanistan, I have been given an invaluable reminder of that, for which I am deeply grateful.

Tomorrow I will write my eighth and final blog about Clay's Afghanistan appeal but, Inshallah, God willing, it will not be my final blog about UNICEF's work in that country or in other areas around the world.

One of the things I suggested in my answer to Clay's question about awareness on Yahoo UNICEF UpClose was that people can relate to situations and be moved to help if the issue is made personal, if the people there have faces and names, if we can see specific results for the donations that we give.

Thank you for giving me an opportunity to get to know Fawzia and Jamad and Nasrin and that beautiful newborn at the Sadat Health Clinic. Thank you for showing me the students at the Shirin Hazara and the children who, though they live on the streets, still express their joy for living through music.

I pray for your success in training teachers, setting up schools, supplying school children with the materials they need to learn, providing hand pumps so families can have clean, healthy water for drinking and sanitary purposes, reducing the horrifically high rate of infant and child mortality, improving the health and survival rates of their mothers --- and so much more.

Thank you for reminding me that even though the people of Afghanistan live half a world away, they are not "them" --- they are you and me. I am honored and humbled to have had a small chance to help.

Salaam.

Daniele:
