AFGHANISTAN: A man and his daughter share a blanket in the cold, in the village of Bagrami outside Kabul.More than thirteen years of war have destroyed the country's physical infrastructure and social fabric and turned one-third of the population into refugees.

For the final 12 days of 2008, UNICEF celebrity Ambassadors and supporters are posting daily blog entries about the impact UNICEF Inspired Gifts are having on children around the world. Nicole Richie is a dedicated UNICEF supporter. Most recently, she joined UNICEF Ambassador Joel Madden to light the UNICEF Snowflake in Beverly Hills.

Armed conflict, war and natural disasters can cause such chaos in a child's life. Families are torn apart, homes are destroyed and a feeling of security is no longer a reality. The simplicity of a wool blanket can provide a child with the warmth and sense of safety that every child, everywhere should feel.

For the cost of one specialty coffee or latte you can let a child in need know they are loved, by providing them with a warm blanket this holiday season. Just $3.80 can do that. In fact, you can provide 10 wool blankets to children in emergency or conflict situations for only $38.00!

Happy holidays to you and your family, and please think of all of the children whose lives you can change with the simple click of a mouse.

I am Nicole Richie, and I believe in zero.

25,000 young children die every day from preventable causes"things like malnutrition, poor sanitation and lack of safe, drinkable water. UNICEF believes that number should be zero.
