UPDATE: Haiti quake

UNICEF's offices in Port-au-Prince were damaged yesterday, but staff are ready to deliver disaster relief to the children and families affected by yesterday's earthquake in Haiti.

With so many people living at such close quarters—and with access to clean water and sanitary conditions severely compromised even in the best of times—vulnerability to the spread of life-threatening waterborne diseases can skyrocket when a natural disaster strikes, as can difficulties in delivering much needed food, medical supplies and protection services.

Children—the most vulnerable population in any disaster—as is too often the case, are most likely to suffer the consequences.

You can help by spreading the word about UNICEF's disaster relief efforts and/or by making an online donation at www.unicefusa.org/haitiquake.

Thank you for your support and concern. We'll keep you posted here.

I have sent a donation, but would like to offer time, hands, feet whatever is needed to help, either here in Washington or in Haiti. I speak Spanish, English and French fluently. I'm also young and full of energy and more than willing to help in any way shape or form. Please contact me to know how I can be of service.
Thank you.

Hi I'm from Miami born in Argentina, I heard what happen to Haiti yesterday, I would love to go there and take can food and money personally to the poor, but the problem is that I don't know ways to get there and how. I really believe I should be there helping the children and families, my friends and I are wealthy enough to provide many can foods and money to be taken there.

My prayers go out to the people in Haiti. May you find hope and comfort in the Lord.

Gregory,
thank you for you thoughts. I may actually take you up on the offer to lend a helping hand to Haiti. I have setup a fund raiser site through UNICEF to assist the children affected by this tragedy and am in the process of coordinating with the people that are on the ground in Haiti to see how we can use the tremendous offers to help efficiently.

My family and I just made a donation. We believe in UNICEF knowledge and power to really deliver the appropriate help to those kids in Haiti that have lost their parents and caretakers and are alone, hungry, injured and scared.
