Awesome, totally fun and absolutely amazing are the words that describe the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF 60th anniversary celebration in New York on Wednesday evening. Celebrating 60 years of kids helping kids, the party was a celebration of kids and partners who have made Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF a beloved campaign for generations of Americans to help kids in need all over the world.

Grown ups and kids in costume made their way down the orange carpet to enjoy a fun evening of face painting, balloon artistry, magic, photo booths, candied apples and signature blood orange Bellini  “mocktails” !  Special guests included representatives from our National Sponsors Toys”R”Us, Inc. and HGTV, and even Geoffrey the Giraffe was spotted mingling with the crowd.

To commemorate the 60th anniversary, the event honored generations of American kids who have collected donations with the iconic orange box.  We heard inspiring stories from Gloria Sfiroudis, a teacher from PS 3 in Brooklyn who has been running Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF programs for 20 years and one of her students Maddelena Carusones, who has been Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF since kindergarten.

Sandra Lee, New York Times Bestselling author and Editor-in-Chief of Semi-Homemade magazine, gave a speech about her dedication to Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, telling us how she grew up with food stamps to survive while kids in other countries don’t have that facility.  She reminded us that every $1 that kids collect through Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF will provide food to kids in need around the world.

The celebration culminated with the unveiling of a giant cake designed by Cake Alchemy shaped like the iconic orange box. U.S. Fund for UNICEF President and CEO Caryl Stern gathered the children to help cut the cake for everyone to enjoy.  It was delicious!

Halloween is our favorite time of year and with 11 days remaining till the big day, we are looking forward to more celebrations to come! To learn all the fun ways you can participate or to make a donation visit our website www.trickortreatforunicef.org
