Join the Month of Giving!

Today is the 40th Anniversary of George Harrison's 1971 Concert for Bangladesh at Madison Square Garden. This historic concert, the first of its size to bring together musicians in the United States for a humanitarian cause, resulted in the creation of the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF (GHFU) at the U.S. Fund.

While the original concert raised $250,000, the sales of the album, video, & DVDs of the performance have raised over $15,000,000 for UNICEF over the last 40 years. Thus, our desire to celebrate the Anniversary, which has now turned into a Horn of Africa fundraiser in honor of and in memory of George's philanthropic legacy.

We are celebrating the Anniversary in three ways:

  • Apple/iTunes has announced the exclusive digital release of the Grammy Award winning Concert for Bangladesh on the iTunes on-line store, with every download benefiting the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF. The GHFU and Concert are currently featured on the front page of iTunes and the US Fund will receive almost $16 from every download. It is a great concert - check it out!
  • The Concert for Bangladesh feature film will be available through the end of the day today, for free video streaming in its entirety on iTunes, as well as on GeorgeHarrison.com and, the ConcertforBangladesh.com. Watch it and support the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF.
  • All of this is part of the Month of Giving in conjunction with the Anniversary. This Month of Giving consists of over 50 legendary musicians (including such names as Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Leon Russell, Arcade Fire, Selena Gomez, the Doors, Enrique Iglesias, Jewel, Nas, the Grateful Dead, Elvis Costello and many more) engaging with their fans on our behalf. Many will show a short Month of Giving video at their concerts that directs fans to donate and text to give to UNICEF as well as tweet and post messages along these same lines on their Facebook pages!
