UNICEF is monitoring reports of a 7.2 magnitude quake in Turkey that may have claimed hundreds of casualties.
The earthquake–the country’s most powerful in at least a decade–took place near the eastern city of Van.
As always, UNICEF is concerned about the welfare of children, who are among the most vulnerable in any disaster.
UNICEF Ambassador Lucy Liu recently traveled to Lebanon, where she met with Syrian children and families who had fled the violence in their homeland.
“It is a children’s crisis,” Ms. Liu said, as she visited a makeshift refugee camp in the Bekaa region of Lebanon.
