An investment in the human family

We wanted to invest our resources in children's lives and a deferred charitable gift annuity seemed like a good way to give today. A deferred charitable gift annuity is a practical way to make sure that we are making a significant contribution in the present and also securing income for our own future. In these uncertain economic times, it is really the ideal tool to fit our donating goals. We are able to commit considerable resources to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF and still make sure we have provided for our retirement.
Shahla Wunderlich, PhD, is a U.S. Fund for UNICEF Danny Kaye Society member and a major donor.  She holds a doctorate degree in nutritional bio-chemistry and metabolism from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I owe much of whom I am today to my grandmother and to UNICEF.  As a young girl living in Iran, my grandmother impressed upon me the importance of education.  I still recall her walking me to a local school, where I studied English. She would patiently wait outside until the class was over and would then walk me home.  She had a vision for my future and knew that if I was going to be successful, education had to be my first priority.

Shahla and Eberhard Wunderlich chose UNICEF for a deferred charitable gift annuity.

UNICEF further helped  fulfill my grandmother's vision. In my early 20s, I was awarded  a UNICEF fellowship to study nutrition at the American University of Beirut.  UNICEF wanted students from the Middle East to have some expertise in nutrition and in turn to have them help women and children in their countries.  UNICEF also provided me with a tutor so that I could improve my English language skills.  I was very grateful to UNICEF and probably wouldn't be here (in America) today without UNICEF's help.  I later went to MIT for my PhD, which is where I met my husband, Eberhard, who also has a PhD.  I introduced Eberhard to UNICEF's work and together we made a commitment  to support this wonderful organization.  It is our way of saying thank you for the life-changing opportunities UNICEF had provided me. Eberhard and I both believe that we are all one human family, and we need to take care of all the members of our family. We believe the best way to care for our global family is to support UNICEF as it works at the international level.  If we hope to see a better future, then we need to improve the lives of the children who represent that future. I hope you will consider joining Eberhard and me and consider a planned gift that will benefit future generations of children in the years to come.
