UNICEF and its partners envision an AIDS-free generation. As we approach World AIDS Day, we highlight the huge impact that Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (or PMTCT) has had on reducing the number of new HIV infections in Africa. Yesterday we introduced you to Mirriam Chongo and her baby Peter. Mirriam  lives in Zambia, where investment in HIV testing, care and prevention has made great progress. Having learned that she is HIV positive and pregnant, Mirriam is following the necessary steps to protect her son from the virus. Here's what happens when Peter turns 6 weeks old.

We will be sharing Mirriam and Peter's 18-month journey over the next 2 weeks. Follow it with us, and mark your calendars for December 1 – World AIDS Day. Read more about the importance of PMTCT in this op-ed  from Doctors Without Borders.
