UNICEF: Allow help to Syrian children caught in violence
Nearly eleven months of violence in Syria have led to the deaths and injuries of hundreds of children. There are reports of children being arbitrarily arrested, tortured and sexually abused while in detention. Over the past few days, reported heavy shelling by government forces of civilian neighborhoods in the city of Homs is undoubtedly causing further suffering for children.
“This must stop. Even one child killed in the violence is one child too many,” said UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake. “We urge the Syrian authorities to allow help to all those who need it desperately.”
UNICEF does not have access to the affected areas of Homs and cannot confirm the impact of the attacks there, but there are credible reports, including from international media inside Homs, that children are caught in the violence. Those injured must be given immediate and unconditional access to specialized medical care.
I plan to bookmark this page; please keep everyone updated as humanitarian groups are allowed to take aid to the vulnerable. Pray for Syria’s children!
We must not discount the severity of an ongoing crisis in Syria and the immediate and residual impact it will have on Children. Despite access, thank you UNICEF for allowing your voice to be heard
It really breaks my heart to hear that these innocent children are being tortured and killed. It’s not fair to them and there’s got to be a way to help them. They will be in my prayers!!!!!!
Innocent children who find happiness n peace in the smallest things should never have to face the hand of war. They can’t fight back let alone understand what the fight is for, Please lets find a way to stop it…..ASAP
I would love to hear that UNICEF is prepared and planning to be on-ground in Syria helping kids once NGO’s can get in-country. I can’t find any NGO’s who are ready to make this statement, and want to send my (limited) money and (ample) time to somewhere I know it will have a direct impact.
Is there a any to help the children in Syria, where can I donate? And how are you helping them now?
