UNICEF partners with top brands, offering exclusive items benefiting programs that improve and protect the lives of the world’s most vulnerable children. Below is a selection of UNICEF’s “Gifts that Give Back” from partners offering ways to help this holiday season.
IKEA “Soft Toys for Education”
From November 4–December 29, for every purchase from the “Soft Toys for Education” collection, the IKEA Foundation will donate 1 Euro (approximately $1.30) to support UNICEF’s and Save the Children’s global education programs. This year, the expanded collection includes children’s books, a new dancing ballerina pig, a spotted leopard, a grey circus seal and other colorful soft toys. Since 2003, IKEA Soft Toys for Education has raised more than $61.75 million through this campaign, providing a quality education for more than 8 million children in 40 different countries. For more information, visit www.ikeafoundation.org.
UNICEF and Gucci have partnered for the fifth year in a row to create a special edition “Gucci for UNICEF” bag. This year Creative Director Frida Giannini has specially designed the Boston Bag in alabaster leather. Additionally this year, Gucci introduced the “Flag Collection,” an exclusive line of t-shirts and accessories infused with the colors of different global flags. 25% of the retail price of each of these items will benefit UNICEF’s “Schools for Africa” and “Schools for Asia” initiatives, which provide a quality education for the most disadvantaged children in Africa and Asia. The “Flag Collection” is available through December 31, 2012, and the “Gucci for UNICEF” bag is available through May 31, 2013. Both are available in Gucci stores worldwide and at www.gucci.com.
As part of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF’s 2012 holiday campaign, national home fashions retailer HomeGoods is offering a way for kids to save their coins and dollars while helping to provide funds to enable UNICEF to give lifesaving services and support to the world’s most vulnerable children. From November 23, 2012, through January 31, 2013, HomeGoods will offer eight styles of limited edition oversized ceramic piggy banks and will donate 50% of the purchase price for each bank purchased at their stores to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF to support UNICEF’s lifesaving work for children, with a minimum donation of $75,000. To find a store near you, visit www.homegoods.com/locator.
On November 27, 2012, as a founding partner of #GivingTuesday, a day in which people are coming together to transform the giving season and support communities in need around the world, Discover will encourage its cardmembers to support the U.S. Fund for UNICEF—with an extra incentive. For all donations made to support UNICEF’s lifesaving work for children via this website, with Discover cards on Tuesday, November 27, Discover will offer a 2% match to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF and waive transaction fees that day. For more information, visit www.givingtuesday.org/partner-detail/discover.
Through November 30, 2012, Starwood will donate 10 Starpoints® to UNICEF for every room booked throughout Starwood’s Cyber Monday sale, up to 500,000 Starpoints.
