Superheroes at UNICEF’s Masquerade Ball

Mid-December may evoke thoughts of snowmen and sleigh bells, but for UNICEF’s Next Generation, it was all about Halloween. Though Hurricane Sandy caused us to postpone our Third Annual Masquerade Ball for six weeks, it didn’t stop people from dressing as their favorite superheroes—or from Believing in ZERO.

Tickets sold out a week before the original date, and over 500 guests joined us at the Angel Orensanz Foundation on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. They came dressed as Superman, Wonder Woman and a plethora of other recognizable superhero staples. Guests were treated to intricate face painting, an extravagant candy bar, a raffle, a photo booth with props, and music by Neil Jackson and Lawrence Lee (keeping everyone dancing late into the night). We surpassed our initial fundraising goal and were able to generate over $160,000 to support UNICEF’s lifesaving work around the world (including our current project in Vietnam).

A huge thank you to the Masquerade Committee and Steering Committee for making this spectacular night possible. It has been incredible to co-chair this evening for the past three years, and I’m already looking forward to next year!
