The 2013 Humanitarian Action Report

You’ve probably heard about the ongoing conflict in Syria. Or the typhoon that struck the Philippines. Or the food crisis in the Sahel region of Africa. But did you know that UNICEF responded to some 200 other emergencies last year? These include floods in Paraguay, cholera outbreaks in 15 African countries, earthquakes in Guatemala and Tajikistan, the displacement of over 100,000 children in Sudan, and severe malnutrition among 1 million children in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

UNICEF works in all these countries and many more to help save children from emergencies both loud and silent. Each year, it publishes the Humanitarian Action Report, which provides a snapshot of emergencies around the world and describes what needs to be done to help children in their path. The Humanitarian Action Report outlines what UNICEF has accomplished over the past year, and also provides a glimpse of anticipated challenges in the coming year.
