eBay community responds to Haiti earthquake anniversary

Reflecting back on the one year anniversary of the Haiti earthquake, we are reminded of the generous support from our digital partners in the days, weeks and months after the emergency.

The eBay community responded immediately with messages of sympathy and support. Within hours of the earthquake, the U.S. Fund for UNICEF was one of several relief organizations that received donations from generous eBay users, donating as they completed their purchases. eBay and PayPal launched relief campaigns, featuring organizations large and small that were providing immediate aid and relief in Haiti. To date, over $3.5 million has come through eBay and PayPal for Haiti relief and recovery.

Earthquake in Pakistan

UNICEF emergency operations are monitoring reports of a 7.4 magnitude earthquake in southwestern Pakistan. The tremor, which occurred more than 600 miles southwest of Islamabad, was reported to have been felt as far away as Dubai. No casualties have been reported.

Multi-colored thanks from Haiti

I was in Haiti this fall and I am bringing back picture-proof of why I remain committed. It’s the hand-drawn, hand-colored thanks of the children I met. These children never showed signs of frustration, though if anyone has a right to be critical of their plight – it’s them.

A voice from Haiti: “I have to be their anchor”

Jean-Andre is a single father living in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He has 2 sons, Mackintosh and Freddy who are presently studying at the Dalmas 33 Die Gloria temporary primary school. It is one of some 250 temporary schools that UNICEF is supporting to ensure that an entire generation are not denied an education in the hard years of recovery and reconstruction ahead.
