Honoring Ravi Shankar (1920 – 2012)

Legendary sitar player Ravi Shankar, who with friend and fellow musician George Harrison created the remarkable Concert for Bangladesh to support UNICEF relief efforts in that country, passed away yesterday at age 92. “The world has lost a hero,” said Caryl Stern, president and CEO of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.

Announcing the winners of the 2011 George Harrison Fund for UNICEF and ACUI Campus Challenge!

The U.S. Fund for UNICEF is proud to announce the winners of the Campus Challenge for the 2011-2012 academic year. From August 1, 2011 through April 1, 2012, the U.S. Fund for UNICEF partnered with the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) and the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF in a nationwide fundraising challenge on college campuses. We are proud to report that over 280 colleges and universities generated more than $167,000. for UNICEF in the Campus Challenge this year!

Join the Month of Giving!

Today is the 40th Anniversary of George Harrison’s 1971 Concert for Bangladesh at Madison Square Garden. This historic concert, the first of its size to bring together musicians in the United States for a humanitarian cause, resulted in the creation of the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF (GHFU) at the U.S. Fund.

While the original concert raised $250,000, the sales of the album, video, & DVDs of the performance have raised over $15,000,000 for UNICEF over the last 40 years. Thus, our desire to celebrate the Anniversary, which has now turned into a Horn of Africa fundraiser in honor of and in memory of George’s philanthropic legacy.

Campus Challenge Winners!

The U.S. Fund for UNICEF is proud to announce the winners of the Campus Challenge for the 2010 – 2011 school year. The U.S. Fund for UNICEF partnered with the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) and the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF in a nationwide fundraising challenge on college campuses from August 1, 2010 through April 1, 2011.

We are proud to report that 397 Colleges and Universities generated more than $232,900 for UNICEF in the Campus Challenge this year! The first $150,000 was matched by the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF.
