Call me ill-prepared, but for some reason holiday shopping is an event that catches me by surprise each year – as though I didn’t have the whole year to prepare. I think part of it is because I always want to find the perfect gifts for my family members and friends – one that is not just material, but that means something. If you have the same gift giving anxiety as I do, you’re reading the right post.

James Elder a father and Communications Chief for UNICEF's Libya Emergency Response Team during UNICEF's first mission on the ground in Benghazi, eastern Libya recounts his encounter with a special boy and his dad.

"I have seen too many children with injuries of war, but as a UNICEF employee--and a father--there is never an easy way to greet the parents of a wounded child. It's not so much a case of 'what if this was my child,' but more of "this is their child.'"

This Father's Day honor your ultimate protector with a UNICEF Inspired Gift of a first aid kit, a basic family water kit or a recreation kit to help dads in conflict affected regions keep their children safe. UNICEF Inspired Gifts are actual lifesaving UNICEF products that are sent to a family in need in 150 countries around the world. We will send your loved one an eCard or you can download a printable card to announce the gift made in their honor. Honor a loved one and help a family in need.

The post Super Dads: protecting a son where safety is relative appeared first on UNICEF FieldNotes.

Like many people today, I use email and Facebook to stay connected with friends and family through most of the year. But sending and receiving Holiday Greeting Cards is one of my favorite holiday traditions and one that I cherish the most. Since I live a couple of thousand miles away from my family (7,315 miles to be precise), sending holiday cards is a special way to let them know I am thinking of them.

Send a UNICEF Greeting Card this Holiday Season. Cards are available at Pier 1 Import stores nationwide or for order online. Every card helps save the lives of children around the world.
