Kristi Burnham leads the U.S. Fund for UNICEF’s Community & Volunteer Partnerships team.
The UNICEF Tap Project is already gearing up for 2011. The campaign, which in 2010 raised more than $900,000 for UNICEF water programs, will once again occur during World Water Week, from March 20 through 26, 2011. Volunteers will be an integral part of the UNICEF Tap Project, and we are seeking motivated volunteers to help serve as UNICEF Tap Project City Coordinators, and spearhead the campaign in five markets: Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Seattle and Washington, D.C.

City Coordinators will help recruit restaurants in their local communities, execute a regional training, host a UNICEF Tap Project launch party, and steward other local UNICEF Tap Project volunteers who are hosting events and recruiting restaurants.
It is a great way to become more engaged with UNICEF, learn about global water and sanitation issues, connect your local community to a lifesaving cause and take action in support of a meaningful volunteer assignment.

We’ve received overwhelming support from our volunteers wanting to take action to support the relief efforts in Haiti. Did you know that becoming a volunteer for the UNICEF Tap Project is another way that you can help?
Haiti was a recipient of 2009 UNICEF Tap Project funds, and has already been designated as a recipient for 2010 UNICEF Tap Project campaign funds. UNICEF’s emergency response will provide short-term water and sanitation relief, while 2010 UNICEF Tap Project funds will help rebuild Haiti’s already insufficient water and sanitation infrastructure over the long-run. To read about how UNICEF Tap Project funds have already helped the children of Haiti, click here.

As hard as it is to believe, the 2010 Tap Project is approaching fast. Volunteers have been essential to the success of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF’s Tap Project, and the organization is calling for committed City Coordinators to help plan and implement the 2010 Tap Project in five key locations: Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Seattle and Washington D.C.

Hola from Panama!
My name is Jessica Dolan and I’m from the U.S. Fund for UNICEF’s Chicago office. I’m writing this entry Monday evening and we’ve had an eye-opening first day in Panama City.
In the wealthiest parts of the city, newly constructed glass towers and beautifully restored colonial homes dominate.
