We have been working especially hard to raise awareness of the catastrophic crisis unfolding right now in the Sahel region in Africa. It’s hard to fathom, but a million children could die if they are not given the urgent help they need. The response from our supporters has been terrific, and we’re especially fortunate to have UNICEF Ambassador Selena Gomez on our team. The talented actress, recording artist and designer has once again lent her support to UNICEF and spread the word about this crisis. Recently, Selena visited OPSCEN—UNICEF’s Office of Emergency Operations Center—in New York, where she toured UNICEF’s behind-the-scenes operations, and recorded a PSA, urging people to donate to UNICEF’s emergency relief efforts in the Sahel.

UNICEF Ambassador Selena Gomez held her 2nd Annual Charity Concert benefitting UNICEF on Friday, January 20, at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, CA. Hosted by Jake Whetter of Radio Disney and joined by special musical guests, Big Time Rush and Noah Guthrie, Selena Gomez & The Scene performed to a sold-out show that raised over $200,000 for UNICEF to provide lifesaving nutrition, clean water, medicine, safety and education to children worldwide. “Giving back has always been important to me. This concert allows me to connect with my fans in person which is one of the best parts of my job and to raise money for important causes at the same time. I can’t think of anything I would enjoy doing more,” Gomez said of the charity concert.

UNICEF Ambassador Selena Gomez is starting off the new year with the ultimate fête – with her 2nd Annual Charity Concert benefitting UNICEF on Friday, January 20, at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, CA! Selena Gomez & The Scene will perform along with surprise musical guests, with profits from the concert benefitting the U.S. Fund for UNICEF to provide lifesaving nutrition, clean water, medicine, safety and education to children worldwide. The best part? The concert sold out immediately after tickets became available last week, meaning a rockin’ good time and a whole lot of support for UNICEF.

Christmas is my favorite day of the year. I love being able to slow down and enjoy time with my family this way. I have so many great memories, and one tradition I have come to look forward to every year is making cheesecake with my Aunt Laveda. Every year we get together and make food all day long, and the last thing is always the cheesecake. The holidays would not be the same without this special touch.

The post 12 Days of UNICEF: Day 1, Selena Gomez appeared first on UNICEF FieldNotes.

On Monday, Selena traveled to the coastal city of Valparaiso with UNICEF. There, she met with some of Chile's poorest women. No doubt they were once full of hope as children. As they matured, poverty brought indignities that would challenge the strongest among us. With soft, tremoring voices, they told Selena how much it mean that she had traveled such distance to meet them. They thanked UNICEF for helping them find their way out of poverty so they can provide for their children.
