Last fall, as the Boston Global Citizenship Fellow, I had the privilege of being part of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF’s Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign. The campaign was everywhere in Boston: in schools, in shops, at community events, farmers markets, and at private fundraisers. The amount of energy that people put into raising awareness and funds for UNICEF was incredible. Here are some of my favorite Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF moments.

The post Global Citizenship: Trick-or-Treat appeared first on UNICEF FieldNotes.

This Halloween, for the 62nd year, kids went door-to-door to Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, helping UNICEF fulfill the needs of the world’s most vulnerable children. Kids, schools, families, community groups, corporations, and non-governmental organizations joined in supporting America’s longest-running youth engagement campaign through a variety of ways, all joining together to make this year’s campaign one of the best ones yet.
A large part of the success of Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF is due to the efforts of companies and organizations that champion for this extraordinary campaign. We’d like to give a big thank you to our supporters who are helping to stand up for vulnerable children around the world through their participation in this year’s campaign.

The post Thank You to Our Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF Supporters! appeared first on UNICEF FieldNotes.

Halloween! The absolute best. It's got to be my favorite holiday. Design an outrageous costume. Put on crazy make-up. Become a totally different person or a completely wild creature. Do a total transformation. Then head out into the mystery of the night!
I love to dress up and express myself. Can you tell? That's why I love Halloween. And I guess I'm pretty lucky. As an actress, I express myself through unique characters all the time. I've had all kinds of different movie roles. I’ve played a kid vampire. I've been a girl with psychic powers. In one film, I was even a purple-wigged crime fighter.

The post Chloë Grace Moretz: Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF this Halloween! appeared first on UNICEF FieldNotes.

Fall is here—which means it’s finally time for Halloween! For as long as I can remember, I have seen UNICEF’s orange Trick-or-Treat boxes make the rounds in neighborhood, often carrying one myself. This year, kids can get even more involved by designing their own Trick-or-Treat collection boxes, which they can then enter into our Create-a-Character Contest. We’ve also revamped the boxes' original look and designed new boxes with six brand-new characters.

The U.S. Fund for UNICEF New England Regional Office recently hosted a community event focused on fostering global citizenship. The event, “Engaging Kids, Schools and Communities: Re-introducing Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF and TeachUNICEF to Boston” concentrated on two specific U.S. Fund for UNICEF programs: our educator resources known as TeachUNICEF and our annual Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign. As the Boston Global Citizenship Fellow, I was excited to plan an event focused on global education and the engagement of young people through service opportunities. The event met and exceeded my expectations as it was truly a community event, with representation from Boston-area parents, teachers, non-profit organizations, students, and religious leaders, all of whom were excited to learn how different community groups were active in educating, advocating and fundraising on behalf of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.

The post Engaging kids, schools and communities with TeachUNICEF and Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF appeared first on UNICEF FieldNotes.

In December, I had one of most rewarding experiences of my tenure at the U.S. Fund when a friend invited me to speak to her daughter Riley’s third grade class at Pine Bush Elementary School in Guilderland, NY. Riley’s teacher, Ms. Germano, and her fellow third grade teachers have been raising funds for Trick or Treat for UNICEF for the past 8 years. This year the classes raised $1,700 to support UNICEF’s work.

The post UNICEF brings the world into the classroom appeared first on UNICEF FieldNotes.

Like any seven-year-old, Jasper likes to play basketball, build Legos and watch a whole lot of Cartoon Network. He's also got a mischievous streak and appreciates things a bit on the silly side.

For most of this past summer, his mother Erin began a tradition of reading a nightly newspaper story at the dinner table in order to foster a connection with the world and events beyond his own community. After an endless stream of articles about high oil prices, the U.S. debt ceiling and power outages, one hit Jasper above all others: The stories and faces of starving children in the Horn of Africa.

He knew he needed to help.
Like any kid, his heart broke when he saw the suffering of children his own age or younger. But Jasper knew he wanted to do more than feel bad. So Jasper enlisted his brother Beckett, 9, and bugged his mom Erin to set up a lemonade stand to raise money to see if—even though he was only about to start the second grade—he could help UNICEF achieve its goal of zero children in hunger.

The post Compassion to action, inspiration from a 7-year-old appeared first on UNICEF FieldNotes.
